POST-GRADUATE STUDIES

BRIDGING YEAR TO HONOURS: Students with a Diploma who passed with over 65% go directly into BTh Honours, those who passed under 65% will go into the bridging year.

BTh HONOURS: First Semester: Students take core courses and a mini-dissertation required in either: Biblical Studies, Systematics, History of Christianity or Practical Theology. Second Semester: two electives.

MASTER OF THEOLOGY: Masters can be done as MTh by Dissertation or by Course Work.

THE DOCTORATE (PHD): This is done by dissertation only.

DIPLOMA IN THEOLOGY

Since 2009 ELCSA, at the LTI offers a three year Diploma in Theology through the Theological Education by Extension College (TEEC)

Credits required for completion:

To complete this 360 credit Diploma in Theology you must complete eighteen courses:

 

  •  complete all six  Compulsory level 5 courses – 120 credits;
  • complete six  Elective level 6 courses – 120 credits;
  • complete two Elective level 7 courses, plus a further three
  •  Electives at Levels 6 or 7 – for a total of 100 credits;
  • complete the Compulsory level 7 course (including the Exit Level Outcomes) - course 87401 – 20 credits.

 

Courses on the Dip.Th Programme:

Each course on the Dip.Th carries a credit value of 20.

Each credit represents approximately 10 notional study hours. Therefore a 20 credit course requires approximately 200 study hours which works out to six  hours per week over 32 weeks. This includes working through the material, completing tasks that are done 'away from the desk', and preparing and writing assignments / exams.

DIACONATE PROGRAMME

We also offer a two year Higher Certificate in Theology through TEEC. This programme run concurrently with courses that focus on the Diaconate ministry.

Credits required for completion:

To complete the 120-credit Higher Certificate in Theology, you must:

•   complete the Fundamental course (24 credits);

•   complete all six  Compulsory courses (72 credits);

• complete another two out of four elective courses - this is the student's own choice (24    
   credits).
